Eve's Obits
A selection of just-breaking show business obituaries from Eve Golden, film and theater historian, magazine writer and editor, author of eight biographies (which you can check out at evegolden.com), and former obit writer for The Everett Collection.
Hiram Kasten, 1952 - 2024
Stand-up comic and actor Hiram Kasten, 71, died on June 16 after a long illness. Kasten performed at all the major comedy clubs (as well as in Vegas), and from 1981 through 2012 was seen in L.A. Law, Brooklyn Bridge, Seinfeld (Jerry was a friend of Kasten's), Cybill, Mad About You, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and other TV-movies and shows.
Kevin Brophy, 1953 - 2024
Actor Kevin Brophy, who starred as a young man raised by wolves in Lucan and in the college-frat horror film Hell Night, died of cancer on May 11, his family has just announced. He was 70. Lucan was his first acting job, and in addition to Hell Night, Brophy was seen in M*A*S*H, The Long Riders, The Love Boat, Goodfellas, and JAG, among other projects. In an example of how even a working actor has to pay the rent, Brophy moonlighted parking cars at the Hotel Bel-Air and as a host at the Luxe Hotel. “It was like catching lightning in a bottle,” he said of his first big break in Lucan. “It happened straight out of the gate. I knew, though, there would be dues to be paid down the line.”
